Top 4 Tips for Preventing Foggy Glasses

As anyone who has been following the mask-wearing guidelines during the Covid-19 pandemic and who uses eyewear will know, without miniature windshield wipers you may run into the common foggy glasses problem.

But don’t worry, we have a few easy tips here to help you see clearly.

4 DIY Tips For How to Prevent Foggy Glasses

  1. The best way to really make sure you have clear glasses while wearing a mask is to ensure you have a snug fit of your mask or face covering.
  2. Check to ensure that the mask is right-side up. How can a mask be upside down? Most masks will have a wire sewn into the bridge of the nose part of the mask. So long as this wire is indeed going across the bridge of your nose, and is pressed down to ensure a secure fit, this should help keep your glasses from fogging up. If that wire is under your chin, you’re wearing your mask incorrectly which allows your warm breath to condensate on your eye glasses’ surface.
  3. If your mask is being worn correctly and you are still experiencing fogged-up eyewear, take a tissue, fold it up and tape it between your mouth and the inside of the mask to help capture the moisture from your breath.
  4. Try washing your glasses with soapy water and let them air dry which will cause a “surfactant effect”. This basically means it breaks the surface tension and causes the water molecules to spread across the glass more evenly and creates a transparent layer.
  5. Use an over-the-counter protectant spray and cleaning cloth combo such as the Warby Parker Clean My Lenses Kit. This kit comes with an anti-fog lens spray, a microfiber cloth, and a microfiber lens pouch.
